FIVE Gwynedd women have launched a new refugee support organisation and are now appealing for donations and volunteers to join them.
CEFN – Supporting Refugees was founded by Gwenlli Haf Evans of Minffordd, Caron Dukes, Michelle Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog, Sara Roberts of Criccieth and Ellen ap Dafydd, of Trawsfynydd.
The women became involved in the effort to support refugees after witnessing the horrors of the humanitarian crisis in Syria on the news.
In the last year their volunteering work has taken them to areas such as Calais in France, Leros and Lesbos in Greece where they delivered pallets of aid which were donated by the people of north Wales.
Gwenlli said: “As a group that has been responding to the refugee crisis since August 2015, we’ve been busy building an organisation that enables the people of north west Wales to respond by offering whatever kind of support they can.
“Our name is new, but our volunteers’ experience continues to grow as we develop and evolve in an ever-changing landscape.”
Since the group’s relaunch, CEFN has raised enough funds to pay for half the cost of a container of aid to travel to Greece.
