A COUNCILLOR has labelled a new speed bump outside an Aberystwyth secondary school a “complete disaster” and questioned why it was built when there are cuts to other services.
The remarks were made after Ceredigion County Council completed the construction of a speed bump between Penglais School, Waunfawr and the entrance of Brynamlwg at the end of October, with the help of a grant from the Welsh Government’s Safe Routes in Communities Scheme 2015-16.
Although the council said the new construction would include a crossing, the speed bump doesn’t include a priority route for pedestrians, and the council have been accused of complicating an already chaotic area.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, county councillor for Waunfawr, Cllr John Roberts accused the council of making the area less safe, not safer. “What a disaster,” said Cllr Roberts.
“Myself and Cllr Paul James [county councillor for Llanbadarn were asked about it, but we were not told what was going there.
“We both agreed, but only if it would improve the health and safety of the children."
