AS BANGOR enters lockdown this evening, it’s been confirmed that the rest of the county will remain open for the time being.
Officials met earlier today to discuss the situation in Gwynedd as a whole and decided that no immediate action needs to be taken in Dwyfor, Arfon and Meirionnydd.
Bangor went into a hyperlocal lockdown at 6pm this evening and whilst the measures for Gwynedd are currently limited to the city of Bangor, Leader of Gwynedd Council, Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn, has urged all Gwynedd residents to follow the simple Welsh Government guidance to halt the current significant increase in Covid-19 cases in other areas of the county.
Cllr Siencyn added: “Earlier today I met with the First Minister, the Health Secretary and public health experts to discuss the wider situation we are facing in Gwynedd.
“Following this meeting, the First Minister has confirmed that no immediate action will be taken to introduce further local restrictions at this time in Gwynedd beyond the local restrictions which came into force in Bangor at 6pm tonight.
“However, the situation facing us is serious and is being monitored closely on a day to day basis.
“Put simply, there is no room for complacency for any Gwynedd resident. We must all play our part as individuals in following the national Covid-19 guidelines to protect ourselves, our loved ones and the wider community.”
A Welsh Government spokesperson added: “Further meetings were held today with local authority leaders in Gwynedd and public health experts to discuss the wider situation in Gwynedd.
“We will continue to closely monitor the situation in Gwynedd and will meet with the local authority and with neighbouring local authority leaders at the start of the week to discuss the developing situation further.”
