Madam,
The BID voting was a massive success for the no vote, if only by one vote.
When the first meeting was held over two years ago the council said that with Morrisons, the university, Tesco and M&S included, this would be a huge benefit to the scheme, as they would be putting in 1.25 per cent of their business rates).
But these four have made it clear that they do not want to waste their money and have opted to boycott the scheme. The problem I’ve got is if you put the gov-ernment and the council together on a project you get an unfinished bandstand which is the biggest embarrassment since the Kings Hall was knocked down. Cllr Gareth Lloyd said about the BID scheme that it will improve the town centre and parking. How is he going to do this? Or is this more hot air. The ‘no’ voters should not pay this 1.25 per cent and test the legality of the block vote of 14 by the council to push through its own scheme.
Yours etc
