After the weeks of your letters page being dominated by the very necessary debates about second homes locally, could we all make sure our visitors feel welcome this half-term week and beyond?

We can all too easily take our mountains and seashore for granted, but so many of these people live in a very flat and crowded England, well away from water, and too often with children who have unimaginably endured the year of Covid lockdowns in high-rise flats.

The breaths of our good air and the opportunities for exercise and relaxation that we can offer will do immeasurable good for many.

We can complement the natural wonders with a welcoming smile or conversation in the high street and its shops, where traders must themselves must be breathing a sigh of relief at this time! After all, we have the place to ourselves the rest of the year.
