A plucky teenage girl is donating bone marrow to help her sick 39-year-old dad beat cancer, despite having a fear of needles and hospitals.

Father-of-four Steffan Owen, who is suffering from leukaemia, told the Cambrian News he is “proud and grateful” that his eldest daughter Olivia has bravely decided to donate her bone marrow.

Steffan, who has been battling a brain tumour for several years, was rocked in spring by a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia.

Olivia made the incredible offer to donate her own bone marrow and give her dad the best chance of a cure.

Her bravery is all the more commendable when you consider that she “hates needles and hospitals”.

Olivia will donate her bone marrow to her father this week when he undergoes a round of treatment including chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

His treatment will last for approximately four to six weeks when it is hoped Steffan will then be cured of leukaemia.

Steffan could not be prouder of his daughter, especially after she was recently accepted on to a business degree course in Dolgellau, where the Owen family lives.

“I’d like to thank Olivia for doing what she’s doing in saving my life and I also hope it encourages others to get on the donor register,” he said.
