A NEW one-way sign erected at the end of Aberystwyth’s Chalybeate Street is there to make sure motorists driving down Grays Inn Road go in the correct direction, Ceredigion council has explained.

The sign has been put up close to the roundabout at the end of Chalybeate Street linking the road to Alexandra Road, Park Avenue and Mill Street, with some people claiming it is confusing as it is so close to the roundabout.

However, a council spokesperson has said it has been put up to ensure that motorists do not drive the wrong way down the one-way Chalybeate Street.

They said: “The sign has been erected for drivers emerging from Grays Inn Road to inform them of the direction of traffic flow relating to the one-way order that is in force along Chalybeate Street.”

Works at the end of Chalybeate Street have come in for criticism, with local businessman Benjamin Manluctao, of the Central Fish Restaurant, insisting that works had affected his business and accused the council of a lack of respect in how the authority has handled the situation.
