The Outward Bound Trust, which has a centre in Aberdyfi, is in the running for a top award after being shortlisted as one of the best outdoor learning experiences in the UK.

The School Travel Awards are known as the most important annual awards of their kind, recognising the people and organisations which provide inspiring school trips to the next generation.

The aim is to put the national spotlight on learning and life-enriching experiences outside the classroom, with Outward Bound receiving a nod in this year’s Best Residential category.

Outward Bound has two Welsh centres – one at Aberdyfi and one on the shores of Llyn Ogwen, between the Carneddau and Glyderau mountain ranges.

The trust specialises in providing life-changing educational experiences for nine to 24-year-olds and partners with a wide range of schools, colleges and youth groups to help develop tailored outdoor learning courses.

Commenting on the nomination, Daniel Cibich, head of educational partnerships at Outward Bound, said: “It is fantastic to be nominated for this prestigious award.

“We believe that learning about yourself happens best out in the wild, where young people can develop the confidence they need to tackle the real world head on - away from everyday life and all its distractions.

“The School Travel Awards are renowned for recognising amazing experiences and stand-out locations for both children and teachers which make a real difference in young people’s lives, so even to be nominated is a real honour. Fingers crossed on awards night!”

The winners of the School Travel Awards will be revealed at a special ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in central London on Friday, 15 November.
