A PWLLHELI councillor has accused Gwynedd Council of ‘kicking the residents and workers of the town in the teeth’ with their proposed new parking regulations.

In February, Gwynedd Council decided to update their parking fees across the county and are looking at introducing pay-and-display arrangements in 24 council car parks that are currently free to use.

Pwllheli could see parking meters installed at the car park near the Black Lion, at Penmount and at South Beach (the Promenade) under the new regulations.

Cllr Jonathan Roberts has slammed the plans. He said: “Gwynedd Council officials have surpassed themselves in once again kicking the ordinary resident and worker of Pwllheli in the teeth.

“Gwynedd Council officials want to introduce payment meters in all their Pwllheli car parks, all except Frondeg and the offices in Ffordd y Cob.

“All other residents and ordinary working people in the town will have to pay these hefty parking charges on top of a recent huge rise in council tax and ever-decreasing council services, and now the council is introducing another tax to live and work in Pwllheli.

Gwynedd Council said the plans to change parking regulations are currently the subject of a public consultation.
