A Barmouth woman will travel to Hawaii to compete in the Ironman World Championship after winning her age group at Ironman Wales in Tenby.

Paula Sky Tunnadine competed in the Ironman Wales event at Tenby on Sunday, 15 September, coming first in the 55 to 59 age group.

It is just the latest in a string of the Ironman challenges that Paula has completed, and she is already gearing up for another in the World Championship in Hawaii.

Paula’s victory was even more impressive considering her training had been affected an injury, but it didn’t stop her completing the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle ride and 26.2-mile run in first place in the age group.

She said: “I’m still in shock at winning my age group and entry to the Ironman Wold Championships in October.

“It’s been a long 12 month of training as usual for what was supposed to be my eighth and last Ironman distance event.

“Over the last four months I’ve been nursing an achilles tendonitis so I was worried that I might not get the whole event done within the 17-hour cut off time."
