Madam,

I feel I have to write to you since I read a couple of letters a few weeks ago about cyclists criticising motorists. I want to stand up for pedestrians who are being forced off the pavements by cyclists il-legally cycling on them. That includes children under the watchful eye of their parents.

I witnessed a pedestrian being forced by some speeding cyclist children into a heap of bin bags a few weeks ago on Queen’s Road. I saw the poor woman grimacing in pain and it turned out she had twisted her back as she jumped out of the children’s path. Their parent seemed to be more concerned about the children’s well-being than their victim.

I am an elderly person and I have to avoid going out shopping when the children are going to and from school because of all the scooters and bikes, and that isn’t even mentioning all the students and other grown-ups cycling on the pavement who should know better.

Driving a vehicle on the pavement is illegal whoever you are. If you are not competent to cycle on the road then my view is you should get on your legs and walk.

Yours etc

Mrs P Jones
