THE ANNUAL General Meeting was held on 23 February.Officers elected were: chair, Kevin Goodwin; vice-chair, Goronwy Edwards; treasurer, Mike Daniels; assistant treasurer, Peter Edwards; secretary, Pat Bates; hall booking secretary, Enid Welsh.The committee members are Brian Griffiths, Margaret Evans, Caroline Jones, Dylan Lewis, Cllr Lorrae Jones-Southgate and Cllr Brenda Haines.The chair thanked all committee members for so much unsung voluntary work on behalf of so many resi-dents of all ages from Penparcau and further afield, including the organisation of hundreds of successful meetings and events over the past 12 months. The chair gave special thanks to Brian Griffiths who once again gave so much voluntary time to managing all aspects of hall maintenance and so much more.Thanks were also given to Mike Daniels for managing the hall fees and bank accounts as treasurer for approxi-mately 40 years, again on a voluntary basis. A special thanks was expressed to Enid Welsh for managing both official positions of general secretary and hall secretary. She will remain as booking secretary (contact 01970 626187), pass-ing the general secretary position on to Pat.Again, the past year has been extremely busy and a successful one, with so much on offer in the hall for residents to participate in.These sessions include the Falls Clinic with Laureen; yoga classes with Sue Jones-Davies; Penparcau Senior Citizens Club with Cllr Lorrae Jones-Davies arranging numerous social events and trips; the Knit & Chat Club; Brenda’s bingo evenings; and slimming classes. There are also many casual hirers, such as the university’s Widening Participation and Inclusion Art Classes; Women’s International Day (8 March); and MP Mark Williams’ surgeries.The Neuadd Goffa Hall is steeped in history as can be witnessed on a visit to view the war memorial plaques and historic Penparcau photographs on display. Past and present committee members have all voluntarily managed the hall for nearly 100 years, which will bring celebrations at the actual centenary anniversary.
