A FELINFACH pensioner says she is at her “wits’ end” after seeing her front lawn flooded by raw sewage for the third time in two years.
Dorothy Morris-Salter is calling on Welsh Water to move the “inadequate” sewage pipe running under her garden to outside the boundary of her property.
“I feel like I’m at my wits’ end,” a distraught Mrs Morris-Salter, who was recently widowed, told the Cambrian News.
“I have contacted my MP, AM and Ceredigion council but no-one seems able to help. It’s terrible to have your front lawn covered in raw sewage – this problem goes back 30 years and last week’s overflow was the third one in two years.
“Dwr Cymru could re-lay that pipe outside my property – there’s absolutely no reason for it to go through my property.
“As things stand it’s two-and-a-half metres under my front lawn.”
Local county councillor Lynford Thomas expressed frustration at a problem he said dated back to the 1980s.
“I don’t blame Mrs Morris-Salter for kicking up a fuss,” he said.
“It’s scandalous that she’s had raw sewage all over her garden – and hers isn’t the only property affected.
“After a spell of heavy rain in January, the manhole outside the Vale of Aeron public house blew open and raw sewage came out.
“Dwr Cymru was told 30 years ago that the main sewer pipe running through the village had to be changed, but ever since then all we’ve had is excuses, excuses, excuses."
A spokesperson for Welsh Water said: “We received reports of flooding at the customer’s property in Felinfach, Ceredigion and immediately sent a team to investigate.
“Our team liaised with the customer to agree the necessary repair work to the pipe and this has now been completed. We would like to apologise to the customer for the inconvenience caused.
“We are aware that there have been previous bursts on the pipe and will be undertaking further investigations into this.”
