An Aberystwyth councillor is campaigning for cycle lanes to be installed along two main routes into the town – months after one of his colleagues died whilst riding a bike.
Cllr Mark Strong said he fears that people are at risk if they try to walk or cycle either on the A44 or A487 into Aberystwyth.
He added that it was “an absolute disgrace” that the Welsh Government wasn’t doing more to provide better routes for cyclists and pedestrians.
The call comes just months after fellow Plaid Cymru councillor, Paul James, died after he was hit by a car while cycling on the A487 between Waunfawr and Comins Coch as he trained for a charity cycle ride.
Cllr Strong, who has written several letters to transport minister Ken Skates, said: “I am fed up with the snail’s pace of getting projects to install pavements and bike lanes in Ceredigion.
“I hear all too often that people are giving up cycling on the A44 and A487 because they are scared for their safety.”
