PEOPLE with a new persistent cough or high temperature are being advised to self-isolate for seven days, but schools will remain open for now.

In a press conference this afternoon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that from Friday, those with symptoms of coronavirus will be asked to stay at home as the UK enters the ‘delay’ phase of its plan.

Public gatherings and sporting events will still be allowed to take place, with Wales still planning on playing Scotland at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

Mr Johnson said that schools should only close if they are specifically asked to do so, as he warned that the worst of the virus is yet to come.

In the press conference, he said: “Many families will lose loved ones before their time.

“We however have a clear plan that we are now working through.

“The most dangerous period is not now but in a few weeks time."

Over 70s are being advised against going on cruises and schools are being advised not to take trips abroad.

There are 596 confirmed cases in the UK, with 25 in Wales, and 10 people have died from coronavirus.
