An Irish photographer has captured a “unique” snap of Snowdon - from 87 miles away across the sea.
Niall O’Carroll posted a snowy vision of Snowdon on Instagram, taken from an elevated position at the Ben of Howth, the highest point on Howth Head, a peninsula in the suburbs of north Dublin.
Niall said Wales can be seen from Howth Head occasionally, but never with “this level of detail”.
“I took the photo just using my normal camera (Panasonix dmc-tz100), zoomed right in so I could see Snowdonia more clearly and used a filter just for more clarity,” Niall said.
“It was taken from an elevated position at the Ben of Howth, which is the highest point on Howth Head, the closest point in Dublin to North Wales.
“You can see Wales from here occasionally, but not too often, and I have never seen Snowdon with this level of detail before.
“The fact that Snowdon was covered in snow also helped to make it a lot more visible. It was just one of those rare crystal-clear days, so I managed to get this unique photo!”
Niall added: “I live nearby in Portmarnock, which is also by the sea, and often go for cycles and walks up around Howth, definitely one of the most scenic spots in Dublin.
“I’m hoping to get some more shots like this when the conditions allow; always fascinating to view distant lands, especially at present when travel opportunities are limited. I would love to visit North Wales and Snowdonia soon again when this is all over!”
