CEREDIGION County Council has been urged to discuss the future of the former Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi school building with local residents.
The school closed its doors this summer ahead of the opening of the new Ysgol Bro Teifi, but Cymdeithas yr Iaith is calling on the local authority to take it off the market and open a dialogue with the local community.
Bethan Williams, Dyfed area officer for Cymdeithas, said: “Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet will meet on 6 September; we call on them in that meeting to take the site off the market and discuss openly with local residents. Ideas have been raised by individuals on social media already, why doesn’t the council listen and discuss?”
Cymdeithas has also pointed out that the Welsh Government has designated Dyffryn Teifi a Local Growth Zone.
“Despite Dyffryn Teifi being a Local Growth Zone, we’ve seen banks closing, the town library is under threat of closure, and the community now runs the swimming pool,” said Ms Williams.
“Why doesn’t First Minister Carwyn Jones step in and use government and European resources in order to invest in the Teifi Valley?”
