ABERYSTWYTH University’s major new Innovation and Enterprise Campus at Gogerddan will go ahead, despite warnings of delays.

Speaking to a Rotary Club meeting this month, university vice-chancellor Prof Elizabeth Treasure said the Gogerddan Campus redevelopment “may be delayed slightly as costings are carefully reviewed.”

But a university spokeswoman told the Cambrian News that construction will start in the spring “subject to final planning permissions being granted.”

“As with any major construction project, there is constant monitoring of costings and expenditure,” the spokeswoman added.

The £40.5m campus is the largest development of its kind in mid Wales in recent years and aims to be “a catalyst for economic development.”

The new campus will offer a range of high quality technical facilities and specialised equipment to support innovation, enabling commercial enterprises to grow, prosper and drive economic growth in the areas of food and drink, biorefining and biotechnology, and healthy crops and livestock throughout Wales and beyond.

The project, which has received millions in EU and Welsh Government funding to go ahead, had been the subject of delays after highway fears were raised at the planning stage.
