A decision on a contentious plan to move 47 caravan pitches to a small village near a Ceredigion seaside town has been deferred yet again.
Vale Holiday Parks Ltd wants to move 17 caravans from Wern Mill Caravan Park and 30 from The Village Holiday Park to create 47 pitches at Ocean Heights Holiday Parks in Maenygroes, about 1.6 miles from New Quay on the A486, but the scheme was recommended for refusal at the October 14 meeting of Ceredigion County Council’s development management committee.
A planning statement said the 17 caravans “would form a natural extension to the existing Ocean Heights Park”.
New Quay Town Council has not discussed the scheme because several councillors declared an interest, leaving it without a quorum.
Local community council Llanllwchaearn opposes the plan, saying it “would double the area of the site”.
Since the application was lodged last year, objectors have raised concerns on the council’s planning portal about road safety, residents, wastewater infrastructure and “massive overdevelopment”.
The application was recommended for refusal in March and May but deferred both times after extra information was submitted. It was deferred again in June for a site visit.
Objectors said the scheme would put more pressure on the 60-strong hamlet’s “already strained resources”, with the caravans “dominating” the settlement.
Since previous hearings, the applicants have submitted information on the scheme’s potential economic benefits, saying the 47 units “would create approximately £760,000 in visitor expenditure into the local economy in any year”. Officers said this was one factor in assessing the scheme, not a fundamental change.
At the October meeting, committee members were told to delay a decision after the applicant submitted more information on the eve of the meeting.

It is now expected to return to the November meeting.
