CONSTRUCTION is underway on the first phase of a major development which will eventually see 57 new flats built at Aberystwyth Town Football Club.

Tai Ceredigion has contracted construction firm WRW to provide 33 one and two-bedroom flats at the Park Avenue site following the development of the football club’s 3G pitch over the summer of 2016.

Ceredigion County Council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn joined Steve Jones, chief executive of Tai Ceredigion, on a visit to the building site.

The first phase was given permission in October 2015, followed in July 2016 by planning consent for the further development of the football club, including a new 500-seat stadium and 24 additional apartments.

Mr Jones said: “Since stock transfer in 2009, Tai Ceredigion has been busy upgrading and maintaining homes for our tenants.

“In addition, we have already been building new homes – many purpose built for disabled, elderly and vulnerable individuals.

“By working with the Ceredigion County Council’s housing options team, we can use our development and housing management expertise to provide top quality homes where the need is high.”

With disabled access accommodation available on each floor of the building — and parking on ground level — it is hoped the development will provide much-needed homes in the town.
