POWYS County Council has refused to disclose the five locations it is considering for travellers’ sites in Machynlleth to town councillors ahead of a meeting, in a move labelled by one councillor as a “travesty”.
Officers from Powys council will meet with Machynlleth town councillors next week to discuss options the authority is putting forward to home a traveller site in the town.
The council has so far refused to tell councillors, as well as this newspaper and Machynlleth residents, what the proposed options are, with one councillor questioning how the town council can provide feedback at the meeting if it doesn’t have the information.
Cllr Gareth Jones told the Cambrian News that it is a “travesty” that “councillors will not have been able to consult their constituents in advance of that meeting”.
Powys council officers will discuss the options for travellers’ sites in the town at a meeting of Machynlleth Town Council on Monday, 31 October.
Cllr Rosemarie Harris, Cabinet member for property, buildings and housing, said: “Feasibility studies for a number of potential sites have been completed and we are currently reviewing the findings. Our intention is to provide the details of all the sites that were considered in this search at a meeting with Machynlleth Town Council on 31 October as well as informing them what our preferred site is and the reason why the other sites were discounted."
