Run-down buildings on the “eyesore” former Travis Perkins site in Machynlleth are set to be demolished to make way for 20 homes and flats.
And Machynlleth town councillors have welcomed the proposal, saying it would be a “good thing” for the town.
The current application, by H&N Developments (Powys) Ltd, is for the demolition of two buildings and a wall currently on the former Travis Perkins site.
A future application would then seek permission for 20 homes, made up of four three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom houses and 12 one-bedroom flats, along with parking, bike parking and a bin store.
Members of Machynlleth Town Council have been critical of the condition of the site since it was left undeveloped, and there have been complaints of rodents on the site and litter.
Mayor Richie Gaskell said he would welcome an improvement to the site. He said: “It can only be a good thing for the area when you look at the site now.
“Anything that gives us more housing for the town is a good thing.
“The state of the site is awful and people coming from outside into the town are seeing that mess, so tidying it up would be good.”
