DOUBTS have been raised over the future of a hotel on the Llyn Peninsula after a planning application was submitted to turn it into a house.

Gwynedd Council’s planning department has received the application from the owners of Plas Bodegroes, a Grade II listed building which was put on the market in 2015 with an asking price of £1.5m, after they decided that the business was no longer viable.

The multi-award-winning restaurant and rooms reopened in 2016 after a five-month closure, having been taken off the market after substantial refurbishment to much of the external building and bedrooms.

The former Georgian country house, situated between Efailnewydd and Pwllheli, remains open to visitors at present, enjoying a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor.

But, according to owners Chris and Gunna Chown, attempts to sell Plas Bodegroes have proved fruitless despite two attempts in the space of 10 years.

With its future not viable in its current form, they believe that best option for the future of the Grade II listed building is as a private dwelling, and have applied for planning to revert the use in order to extend their options.

The plans being proposed would not alter the exterior of the hotel in any way, but would see a reduction in the number of rooms from 10 to 8 and internal works so that sections of the property more closely resemble a home.
