PLANS to knock down a former MOD building that is “one of the last physical links with Ynyslas’s role in World War II” have been approved by planners despite objections from residents and conservation groups.

Outline plans to knock down the building on land to the east of Renfrew Drive and replace it with a home were given the go-ahead despite receiving “a number of objections in respect of the demolition of the former MoD building”, a planning report outlines.

Ceredigion Historical Society said “the building is one of the last physical links with Ynyslas’ role in World War II.”

The area was used as part of a research establishment and missile testing facility during the war.

“We understand that the building is in a poor condition but would like to think that the Council could recommend its preservation along with the adjacent barracks,” the society said.

A council planning report said that the MoD building “is not listed and is of little architectural merit.”

Dyfed Archeology did not object to the demolition of the building but recommended that a “photographic record be made of the building prior to any work being undertaken.”

The application saw 10 other objections including harm to residential amenity, loss of a view, highway safety, ecology, flood impact and the loss of built heritage.
