CAMPAIGNERS for a new playground in Machynlleth are a step closer to a final design following a “very positive” response from the public.
Future Play Machynlleth, the group which has been fighting for a playground which is accessible to children of all abilities, has now completed a consultation which saw them ask residents for their input on which of three possible designs they preferred.
The consultation came after details of the designs, including for a £100,000 ‘Sutcliffe Play’ playground, were reported exclusively in the Cambrian News in August.
The current playground at Y Plas is the only one in Machynlleth and serves children within a 10-mile radius of the town.
Last year, the current playground was described by Future Play secretary, Danielle Armstrong, whose seven-year-old son William suffers with a rare syndrome which limits his ability to walk unaided, as “not fit for purpose” and “inaccessible” to children with disabilities.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Mrs Armstrong said most people who responded to the consultation were “excited” by the designs.
She said: “We have recently got together to go over all the feedback from the consultation process and the public did prefer one design over the others, although lots of suggestions have been made for other items or for changes to the initial designs.
“We are notifying the chosen designer and will be sharing this feedback with them to create a finalised design which we will then be very happy to share with you."
