A SCHEME to redevelop Aberyswyth’s Ceredigion Museum has been awarded over £40,000 from the Welsh Government to provide a new entrance.
The county council wants to use the former Boots store in Terrace Road to create a new street-level entrance to the museum, which would also serve as a new tourist information centre for the town.
The ambitious plans were put forward by the council as a way of utilising the former Boots store, which is owned by the council, and of hoping to increase visitor numbers at the museum.
Ken Skates, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said the funding would help to restore the facades of vacant shops and provide an improved access to the museum whilst ensuring that historic parts of the building are protected and maintained.
He said: “Historical buildings all across Wales are important in shaping our communities and telling the story of our past, while bringing significant economic benefits through tourism.
“There are significant social and educational benefits to these sites and I am pleased that we are continuing to support a range of projects both in and around Communities First areas.
“Early this year, I introduced the Historic Environment (Wales) Bill which will legislate to better care and protect our important historic buildings and monuments."
