WHEELCHAIR users forced to use a busy road in Aberystwyth because the only available pavement is an uneven track have been told they will get a new pavement.
But Ceredigion County Council has also told Denise Sepulveda and Julie Davies, residents of the purpose-built disabled bungalows at Ger-y-Ddôl, next to Min-y-ddôl fields, Penparcau, that they cannot give a precise start date for the works.
It was revealed in the Cambrian News in November that, not only were the neighbours dicing with death when trying to access St Brieuc path, which allows them easy access to nearby shops and the town, but they were also being abused by motorists after being forced to use the road along Fifth Avenue and Min-y-ddôl.
Julie and Denise told the Cambrian News that they couldn’t even use the footpath on the opposite side of the road because the only dropped kerbs available to them are on a steep incline of the adjacent Third Avenue.
A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said: “The council can confirm that works to provide a footway between Ger-y-Ddôl and the footway/cycleway over St Brieuc footbridge are programmed to take place during the 2017/18 financial year.
“No definitive date can be provided at present as the works will be subject to detailed design and procurement processes.”
Roger Owen, a Penparcau resident who has been calling on the council to resurface the pavement for “eight or nine years”, said that while he was glad to see the council finally announce the works, he was cautious not to celebrate too soon.
