Madam,
It’s encouraging to learn about the proposed improvements not only to Aberystwyth’s sea defences but also the promenade as a whole.
The promenade is such an important part of the town and it’s reassuring to know that the Welsh Government is going to partially invest in the improvements.
Given that Ceredigion has such a large coastline, it is unfair that our county is saddled with extensive costs that many landlocked counties avoid.
It’s particularly encouraging to read the range of commercial ideas and developments that will make staging events on the promenade easier, such as service points. It’s vital, I hope, that these developments will truly extend along the prom, particularly along the North Promenade toward Constitution Hill.
It’s important that businesses such as Gwesty Marine, Electra and the Richmond, Helmsman, Queensbridge, Glengower, and other hotels don’t miss out on benefiting from these improvements.
Best of all, it’s encouraging to read of plans for a permanent base for the Aberystwyth Lifesavers Club, an exciting and vital opportunity for young people in the area.
As long as all the improvements are developed in a way that takes the local environment into consideration – both the natural world and the local businesses – then the future’s looking bright for Aberystwyth promenade.
Yours etc,
Nia Edwards-Behi, Aberystwyth.
