CALLS are being made for the National Eisteddfod to return to Porthmadog for the first time in 30 years.

Three decades after Eisteddfod Bro Madog was hosted in Porthmadog, Nia Jeffreys is calling for the eisteddfod to once again be invited to the town.

And bringing the eisteddfod back to Porthmadog would give a welcome boost to the local economy, she said.

Nia, who is standing in this year’s Gwynedd Council elections, believes it will bring thousands of visitors to Porthmadog and surrounding areas, all spending money in the town’s shops, hotels, bars and restaurants.

Nia said: “Many Porthmadog people have fond memories of Eisteddfod Bro Madog which was hosted in Porthmadog back in 1987.

“I was only 11 at the time, but the eisteddfod left a lasting impression on me.

“Porthmadog is a great town with such a pride in Wales and the language – it is an ideal place for the eisteddfod.”

Nia has contacted Gwynedd Council and Porthmadog Town Council to seek support.
