A consultation seeking views on guidance to restrict mobile phones in schools has launched.

The consultation, open for 12 weeks, will shape the guidance to support schools in developing a mobile phone policy.

The new guidance being consulted on will be published in early 2027 and has been developed in response to growing concerns about the impact of mobile phone use on learners’ wellbeing, engagement, behaviour and learning, while recognising the important role that digital technology can play in education when used appropriately.

Education Minister, Anna Brychan said: “The consultation will give schools, parents, learners and stakeholders the opportunity ensure their voices are heard and to shape the new guidance to ensure that it is both practical and effective.”
