THE leader of Ceredigion County Council has come under fire for a “car crash” television interview about a controversial contract with consultants costing taxpayers £2m, which ended with her losing her temper and throwing the TV crew out of her office.
Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn was being interviewed by respected investigative journalist Jacques Peretti for a BBC2 programme called Who’s Spending Britain’s Billions? which was screened all over the UK last Thursday.
Cllr ap Gwynn has been criticised after she was seen demanding the crew leave her office and swearing after refusing to answer questions about the council’s contract with consultants Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
After the programme aired, there was criticism on social media of both the contract and Cllr ap Gwynn’s handling of the interview.
There was also criticism from Cllr ap Gwynn’s fellow councillors.
Cllr Paul Hinge questioned Cllr ap Gwynn’s decision to agree to the interview and said she had been “less than courteous” to the interviewer.
He said: “I would term her performance as a car crash. An unbelievable lack of judgement."
