CALLS are being made for policing powers to be devolved to Wales.
Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP, Liz Saville Roberts, who is Plaid Cymru’s home affairs and justice spokesperson claims that last week’s Police and Crime Commissioner Election has delivered a clear mandate to devolve responsibility for policing to Wales.
She said that the election of Plaid Cymru’s Arfon Jones in north Wales and Dafydd Llywelyn in Dyfed Powys was a resounding rejection of the status quo and an opportunity to renew pressure on the Government to devolve policing to Wales to meet the specific needs of Welsh communities.
Mrs Saville Roberts said: “The resounding victory for Plaid Cymru in north Wales and Dyfed Powys serves to put further pressure on the UK Government to listen again to the cross party recommendations of the Silk Commission and use the revamping of the Wales Bill to revisit growing calls for Wales to be in control of policing powers."
