COST-cutting measures to change how people contact Ceredigion County Council and access services will see staff cuts, the council has admitted.
The council wants to change how it provides customer care services with a new centralised call centre and greater emphasis on people being able to access information through the internet.
That has been backed by members of the council’s Cabinet who have said that putting a greater emphasis on enabling people to get the information they need online would help save money and provide a more accessible services to the public.
However, that will mean there will be staff cuts.
A council spokesperson said: “The Cabinet agreed on the vision to transform customer care towards a digital delivery that would enable the customer to access services anytime.
“The project will move the majority of service requests to a more automated process and this will be done as part of other transformation projects undertaken by the council to meet its saving target for the coming financial years.
“The final result of all transformation projects will result in some reduction in staffing.”
Under the changes, the council would look to provide more information digitally.
Cabinet members backed a new delivery model and will review the changes on a six-monthly basis.
