Two Ceredigion candidates have confusingly both been given the endorsement of a cross-party movement as the election race heats up.

Both Liberal Democrat Mark Williams and Plaid Cymru’s Ben Lake have been endorsed by More United – which aims to crowdfund £250,000 over the course of the election to “help elect more progressive candidates from different parties to shift the balance of parliament away from extremism and reform politics”.

More United said that “in seats where more than one candidate fits our criteria, we may endorse both subject to a members’ vote”.

Mr Williams said: “I am proud to be endorsed by More United, a cross-party movement making politics less extreme and less tribal.

“If we want to heal a divided Britain, politicians must work across party lines to come together beyond the election and put the national interest first to move the country forward.”

Mr Lake said he said he was also “grateful” for the endorsement.

“More United selects candidates who share values of opportunity, openness and tolerance and care for the environment,” he added.

More United will provide funds and a boost in on the ground volunteers to help get selected candidates elected, although how that will work while endorsing two candidates in Ceredigion is unclear.

Both Mr Lake and Mr Williams have signed a More United pledge to stand up for values of opportunity, openness, tolerance, democracy and care for the environment while an MP.
