Plaid Cymru's Liz Saville Roberts says she has a sense of being “humbled” after being re-elected as MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd.

She received 14,447 votes, with Conservative Tomos Dafydd Davies coming second with 9,707 votes, Labour candidate Graham Hogg on 3,998 and Louise Hughes of the Brexit Party with 1,776 votes.

Mrs Saville Roberts said: “It is always a sense of being humbled when the votes are added up and you see the number of people who have put faith in you.

“I will do my best to represent as many people as possible in Dwyfor Meirionnydd when I return to a very different House of Commons.”

Mrs Saville Roberts added: “I’m very proud that we have increased the number of votes for Plaid in this seat for the second straight election.”

There was a turnout of 67.7 per cent as 30,057 people went to the polls, a fraction lower that the 2017 turnout of 68 per cent.

Welsh Conservative candidate Mr Davies, who was runner-up to Mrs Saville Roberts, said he is “delighted” with the way it went.

He said: “We have pulled close to 1,000 votes in this seat.

"Nationally it’s been good to see that there will be Welsh Conservatives who have gained seats and who will be banging the drum for Welsh speakers.

“Whilst disappointing locally, it’s good to see the Conservatives becoming champions in government again nationally.”
