A CRICCIETH lecturer is set to embark on a personal journey where she will discover more about her great uncle, David Lloyd George.
In December 1916, Lloyd George, from Llanystumdwy, became prime minister. A century later, Manon George, will look back on the life and times of ‘The Welsh Wizard’ in the S4C show David Lloyd George: Yncl Dafydd.
Manon George admits she has learnt a lot of about her family’s history through making the show and discovered a lot more about her great uncle, who is known in her family as Uncle Dafydd.
She said: “In my family, everyone took it for granted that we all knew the story of David Lloyd George.
“Although I have the surname and was born and bred in Criccieth, I was surprised how much more others knew about Lloyd George.
"I also hadn’t considered how significant it was that a local boy from Llanystumdwy had gone on to hold the country’s highest office, especially in that period.”
By talking to experts, following his path to Downing Street and Westminster and listening to recordings of his voice, it was a difficult experience for Manon, who’s a law lecturer at Cardiff University, at times because she had to listen to the good and bad about her great uncle.
David Lloyd George: Yncl Dafydd will be broadcast on 20 December at 9.30pm.
