DWYFOR Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts and four-month-old rescue puppy Fiona have scooped third prize in Westminster’s annual Dog of the Year awards held outside Parliament.

Organised jointly by the Kennel Club and Dogs Trust, the competition highlights important dog welfare issues including the theme of this year’s event, the need for education to ensure that children understand how to interact safely with dogs.

Twenty three MPs entered dogs at this year’s event.

Following the awards, Fiona, a four-month-old dachshund has now found a loving home and will be moving in with her new owners later in the week.

Mrs Saville Roberts said: “I’m really proud to be with Fiona the dachshund on the winners’ podium. And it was a particular honour to accompany a Dogs Trust dog, as this was an opportunity to highlight welfare issue."
