DWYFOR Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts has been told off by the Speaker of the House of Commons.
The incident occurred yesterday when the Plaid Cymru MP wished the House of Commons a Happy St Patrick’s Day first in Irish, and then in Welsh.
The Speaker of the House, Lindsay Hoyle, responded by saying: “Can I just say to the honourable lady, let’s just stop.
"I don’t mind the beginning, but to now start extending the sentence in Welsh does go against the rules of the House.”
Commenting afterwards, Mrs Saville Roberts said: “Reprimanded for wishing the House of Commons a very Happy St Patrick’s Day in Cymraeg and Gaeilge.
“Westminster’s disdain for minority languages knows no bounds. High time rules are changed to reflect the reality of modern society.”
