Dwyfor Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts is demanding Parliament is recalled to discuss an emergency extension to Brexit.

The MP is calling for a virtual return of Parliament due to the “double blow of the pandemic and Brexit”.

Negotiations on a future relationship agreement between the UK and EU remain in limbo, and yesterday implemented a ban on accompanied freight for an initial period of 48 hours.

Ireland is also among several countries that have banned UK passengers due to the new coronavirus variant.

Only 10 days remain until the UK is set to leave the transition period.

Liz Saville Roberts said: “Hauliers are today carrying the can for Boris Johnson’s utter failure to plan for the worst-case scenario.

"The transition period is set to end abruptly in just 10 days, which will inevitably add more pressures to crucial food and medicines supplies. Holyhead port is already under strain.

“This is a government in meltdown. Parliament must urgently be recalled virtually to debate an emergency extension to the transition period.

“Plaid Cymru first called for an extension on 13 March and urged the UK Government to dedicate all its efforts to tackling the pandemic.

"The threat of the double blow of the pandemic and Brexit is now more serious than ever. I therefore urge the Prime Minister to do the right thing.”
