CEREDIGION council is managing to bring in millions of pounds each year to help boost affordable housing with more than £3m secured in 2014/15, an audit report has found.

The report from the Wales Audit Office praised the council’s progress in trying to provide more affordable housing working with the Welsh Government and developers to meet the council “priority” in boosting affordable housing.

While the council had set targets for improving access to housing and providing affordable housing, those targets had been exceeded, the WAO report found.

The WAO report highlighted the work the council had done in bringing in funding to Ceredigion as part of its work into affordable housing.

It says: “The council maintains a strong track record in using its own capital resources alongside the Welsh Government, registered social landlords and other funding streams to consistently lever in over £3m per annum to improve affordable housing."

The council had set itself a range of targets after agreeing that affordable housing access to housing was a priority in the 2014/15 Improvement Plan.

The WAO report, which went before the council’s Audit Committee on 2 June, said: “The council exceeded its own targets for improving access to housing and the delivery of affordable housing over 2014-15."

While the report praised the council’s work on affordable housing, it said the authority needed to compare performance in Ceredigion with that in other council areas.
