CEREDIGION County Council has not paid £2,620,000 to consultants Pricewaterhouse Coopers, despite this figure being quoted in an official document it sent to the information commissioner.
Based on documents the Cambrian News had seen, it was reported last week that the council’s spending on the controversial consultants had risen from a previous figure of £1.98m to £2.62m.
The document formed part of a council response to the information commissioner after this paper complained about the council’s handling of our freedom of information request, which asked what percentage of savings PwC would rake back based on savings made based on its advice.
The document said the value of the contract was £2.62m.
But the council told the Cambrian News this week that the contract value had reduced to £1.98m because of “renegotiated reductions” with PwC.
The council said: “The actual figure paid to PwC totals £1,988,212.
“The risk and reward contract began in October 2014 and lasted until June 2016. The contract was valued at £2.62m as reflected in the official document referred to in the article.
“However, the actual amount paid to PwC was less, as has been consistently shared by the council and reported in the Cambrian News.
“The contract relates to the achievement of a number of outcomes.
“Consequently, the contract value was only payable if PwC delivered the scope of the contract.
“As the council successfully renegotiated reductions to the scope, this resulted in the final payment being £1.98m."
