MARK Williams MP was one of the 223 MPs who voted against air strikes on ISIS targets in Syria.

MPs voted 397 to 223 in favour of the strikes.

153 Labour MPs voted against, as did all 53 SNP MPs. Mark Williams and Lib Dem colleague Norman Lamb defied the whip and voted against the motion.

Conservative MP Glyn Davies voted in favour of air strikes.

Mr Williams did not reveal which way he would be voting before the debate in the House of Commons yesterday.

Before the vote, there was a protest by anti-war campaigners outside his office in Aberystwyth.

On Twitter, Mr Williams said: "Have just voted against the government on Syria but fully respect the reasons of colleagues who voted in favour."

Before the vote Mr Davies said he was undecided, adding: “Military action against Daesh in Syria can only be justified if it will improve the security position in the Middle East.

“I will need to listen carefully to the case put forward by the Prime Minister if he decides to seek support of MPs before committing myself.

“MPs will need to be satisfied any action in Syria will help crush Daesh and improve security in Syria itself and across the world.”
