A POPULAR bus which boosts the Llyn Peninsula’s economy and supports its vulnerable residents is at risk of not running next year.

For the last two years, O Ddrws i Ddrws, a community transport provider, has been running a popular bus back and forth between Aberdaron and Nefyn, allowing residents and visitors alike the opportunity to explore the peninsula and to see some of Wales’ most stunning landscapes.

Serving over 3,000 people last year, the bus has proven invaluable for the local community and enabled people to trek the wonders of the coastal path without the hassle of having to double back on themselves.

However, although funding for the service is “highly likely” to be in place from 2019 onwards, there are concerns there is a funding gap for next year’s summer season.

Meinir Jones, project manager at O Ddrws i Ddrws, said: “We have an awareness day at the maritime museum in Nefyn on Friday, 15 December, to let people know exactly what’s happening.

“There’s no danger to the service overall but, at present, we might not be able to run next year.

“We’ve applied for a grant from the Llyn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Unit for approximately £30,000 and if we get that then we should be OK.

“But that alone may not be enough, we’re looking for fundraising ideas or donations, if anyone has any."
