POPULAR historian Dan Snow is once again revisiting his childhood by exploring one of the jewels of north Wales.
The BBC presenter is travelling up and down the country as part of his new documentary series, with one episode focussing on the beautiful Italinate village of Portmeirion.
Dan Snow’s History Hit is expected to launch in the next couple of weeks and will showcase the “best history in Britain”, according to the historian.
“Portmeirion is one of the greatest sites in the UK,” he said in a video report. “I used to come here when I was a child with my great nain who lived in Criccieth.
“I’m here now though because I’m travelling around the country for my new TV project called History Hit – it’s an internet-based history channel. We’re showing off all the best history in Britain and this place certainly counts.
“It’s beautiful, it’s historic and it’s one of my favourites.”
The documentary will be shown on HistoryHit.TV – a global video-on-demand channel dedicated to world history.
“People are going to be able to go to History Hit at the beginning of November,” he added. “We are going to try and change the world of history on television and Portmeirion will be up there very quickly.”
The London-born historian – the great-great-grandson of the only Welshman to become Prime Minister, David Lloyd George – also stopped by at Harlech Castle last Friday as part of his north Wales tour.
In a video he posted on Twitter, he said: “Hi everybody. Today’s History Hit adventure starts here at Harlech Castle – veteran of three of the most gruelling and prolonged sieges in British history.”
Last December, Snow was in Gwynedd filming a documentary – Dan Snow on Lloyd George My Great-Great-Grandfather – in which he explored the tumultuous, ambition-driven life of Lloyd George.
