Following the speeding incident outside Talybont school outlined in a recent issue (‘Lorries speeding through village, Letters, 8 October), the general transport manager of Pets at Home Ltd has updated me on their investigation into the complaint I made about their delivery driver.

In less than one week their investigation was completed and he said: “We found evidence via the vehicle’s telematics and on-board camera that totally substantiated your complaint. I have personally viewed the camera footage and was appalled and angered at what it showed. In the 10 years I have been responsible for the Pets at Home transport operation that is probably the worst example of inconsiderate and downright dangerous driving I have witnessed.”

The transport manager went on to apologise on behalf of Pets at Home and added, “suffice to say that this individual no longer works for Pets at Home”.

In this one action they appear to have achieved more to improve road safety in our village than any of our elected officials have during their time in office.

The question now remains whether Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn and AM Elin Jones can secure traffic calming measures, pedestrian crossings and safe routes to school in order to protect pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists, children, the vulnerable and elderly from the perennial threat posed by drivers speeding through Talybont?
