An environmental group has handed out prizes for going plastic-free to businesses at a popular Aberystwyth festival.
Plastic Free Aberystwyth judged the Best Plastic Free Stall award for the second year at Sea2Shore Festival on Sunday, 11 August.
Stalls were judged on their efforts to reduce single-use plastics in their serving of takeaway food, packaging or general business management, ethos and ambition towards being plastic free.
The group awarded the Gold Prize to Jin Talog, a nearby gin distillery with a difference.
Founders Anthony Rees and David Thomas take zero waste and plastic free to a new level by hand-processing their own sheep’s wool to food grade standards to use as protective packaging when sending, avoiding bubble wrap completely.
Silver Prize went to a new local business, Shire Meadery, who have a bottle return scheme and seal their bottles of delicious mead in beeswax.
Rustic Reclaimed received Bronze Prize for their avoidance of plastic throughout their creations.
A Plastic Free Aberystwyth spokesperson said: “Selecting a winner was extremely challenging because everyone is going above and beyond.
“People have even made huge improvements from last year and it’s so encouraging to see.”
