ROAD safety improvements made to an important route in the Llyn Peninsul­a have been welcomed.

With concerns raised due to speeding on the B4354 in Pentreuchaf which links Y Ffôr and Boduan, Gwynedd Council’s Transportation Service carried out feasibility work in the area.

Having looked at the route in detail, it was felt that a number of key road safety changes including a new lay-out for the crossroads at Pentreuchaf would improve road safety in the area.

The £190,000 scheme was funded through a Welsh Government road safety capital grant.

Cllr Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet member for environment said: “Council officers met several times with the local councillor and others in the area to discuss the concerns, and worked with them to develop proposals that would help to improve the road safety on this popular route in Pen Llyn.

“We were delighted that our bid for funding was approved by the Welsh Government and it is pleasing to see that the work carried out is being appreciated in the area.”

Cllr Anwen Davies, who represents the area on Gwynedd Council, added: “I’m extremely grateful to the council and particularly the staff in the Transportation Service for their work on this important matter.

“The local community council and the school were very supportive to see the changes being made.

“Locally, we have been eager to see improvements on this road, and particularly on the crossroads.

"With the changes now in place, we are pleased to see motorists are now travelling at a much more sensible speed and parents and children can feel comfortable as they walk to school along the road.”

The work carried out on the B4354 at Pentreuchaf between Y Ffôr and Boduan included road signage to encourage motorists to keep their speed down along with road marking improvements and changes to the lay-out of the Pentreuchaf crossroads.
