STAFF from Ceredigion council toilet cleaning services have raised cash to pay for a loo in a village 4,600 miles away.

The award-winning service, which looks after facilities throughout the county, marked World Toilet Day by having a whip round to raise £60 to pay for a toilet in a remote part of Nepal.

The idea was the brainchild of service manager Jasmine Wilson.

She told the Cambrian News: “Toilet facilities are so important to everyone, so we decided to have a collection.

“I chose Nepal because my son and brother have spent time there, but we could have chosen 101 different places. Two out of three people in the world don’t have access to toilet facilities, so it’s vitally important to provide them.

“It’s not a large amount of money to us, but it makes a huge difference to them. We are very proud of our work in maintaining the cleaning of toilets in Ceredigion and know how important it is to the public.

“It is our wish to support and provide toilet facilities where none exist in the third world.

“Such facilities will provide dignity and improved health to the people in the community where the toilet is situated.”
