AN £850,000 revamp has started at Neuadd Dwyfor in Pwllheli which will upgrade the theatre and library facilities.

Neuadd Dwyfor houses a cinema and hosts regular theatre productions, with the ground floor also the home of Pwllheli Library. Work on adapting the facility has begun, with a local company, TIR, appointed to carry out the construction work.

The newly improved Neuadd Dwyfor will provide a better experience for visitors to the cinema and theatre. Improvements include a more modern seating system as well as upgrading the meeting room space on the first floor and creating a new working space for staff.

The work also includes modernising the library, improving the accessibility and creating an accessible toilet.

The foyer of the building will also be completely renovated to create a more welcoming space with the aim of attracting more people to enjoy the various services on offer at Neuadd Dwyfor.

Cllr Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for economic development, said: “Neuadd Dwyfor has tremendous potential to be a first-class cultural, arts and community centre. I am therefore delighted to see the start of the refurbishment work of the performance space, cinema and library at Neuadd Dwyfor.

“The site is very important to local people and visitors to the area, not only as a destination for the enjoyment of the arts, but also in employing 13 staff and supporting many local businesses in the area.

“By improving the facilities, we hope that the people of Pwllheli, Ll?n and the surrounding area will make the most of the new Neuadd Dwyfor and benefit from the improvements when the building reopens next summer.

“In the meantime, we look forward to working with the local community over the coming months to discuss the new programme for the new-look Neuadd Dwyfor. If you have any ideas or questions about the project, please feel free to email [email protected]u and one of the team involved in this exciting project will be sure to get in touch to discuss further. ”

Pwllheli Library will remain open during the refurbishment, but there is a new temporary entrance, and as with all Gwynedd libraries at present, you will need to pre-book an appointment before using the computers or choosing books.
