A MURAL dedicated to a much-loved and very-much-missed member of staff has been unveiled at Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron.

The school was hit hard when teaching assistant Janet Morgan died last year and the pupils wanted to do something to remember her.

As “Miss Janet” led art throughout the school, it was decided that a piece of artwork would be appropriate - and Lizzie Spikes, one of Aberaeron’s favourite artists, was asked to collaborate with the pupils for the project.

The children were asked to come up with words that they thought described, or were important to Miss Janet, and to bring in bits of wood that could be used in the final work.

With the help of Lizzie and her business partner Becky Barratt, designs were drawn up around the chosen words and then painted onto the pieces of wood that best suited, with the final result being a magnificent mural that stretches over the whole wall at one end of the school hall and indeed a fitting memorial.
